What Is Vyvanse?
Vyvanse is an active drug that is used to help take care of attention deficit disorder in children or adult people. The drug is a psycho stimulant in that it affects the chemicals in the brain that control hyperactivity in a person and control of impulses.
Treatment for ADHD is a process with many phases including psychological, educational and social. The vyvanse drug is just a part of this whole treatment program. The drug is composed of an active ingredient called Lisdexamfetamine plus another dormant ingredient that is a protein. When injected into the body, the drug does not start working immediately.
At first, it is taken to the stomach. Then, it is taken through the liver where the liver will work on it and strip off the protein. This will cause the drug to remain with only the active ingredient. This is the only way the drug can be made active and not through snorting or injections. The drug is administered in the form of a capsule that is swallowed completely. However, a person is allowed to open the capsule and mix the ingredients with water; the concoction should however be taken immediately before the effects of the drug disappear.
The vyvanse drug is administered to patients with ADHD and ADD but it is not given to all people who have the disease. Children who are below three years of age are not given the drug since it is believed to cause serious harm to the brain of the child and may also cause a stunted growth. Since the drug is quite addictive, it is not given to people who have previous problems with addiction or any such problems to any other drug.
People who have chronic diseases are also excluded from using the drug. This includes heart ailments, cancer, glaucoma, epilepsy and any other serious ailment that may be affected by the drugs action on the central nervous system. Vyvanse is also not given to pregnant or nursing mothers because it may pass through the blood stream or through breast milk and affect the child negatively.
The drug is addictive and the person to whom it was prescribed should never exceed the prescribed amount or use it at any time that was not allotted. The drug should never be used in the evening because it may cause problems with sleeping for the user.
You should also keep track of the tablets that remain in the bottle in order to guard against anyone abusing them. If you skip a dose, you should take it as soon as possible or not take it at all if it almost evening or if it is almost time for the next dose. When taking the drug, you should avoid taking vitamin C or any fruit juice. When taken in large amounts the drug can cause an overdose to the person taking the dose.
